What does Yahoo say...?
"Wendy's Raises 2007 Earnings Guidance to Reflect Fewer Shares Outstanding
DUBLIN, Ohio (AP) -- Wendy's International Inc. on Tuesday said earnings per share, but not overall profits, would go up this year because fewer shares are on the market.
The nation's third-largest hamburger chain said it expects earnings per share between 11 cents and 14 cents for the first quarter and $1.26 to $1.32 for all of 2007. The company's previous estimate for the year was $1.17 to $1.23, before Wendy's bought back 9 million shares for about $282 million. The stock deal is expected to be completed Wednesday.
Shares of Wendy's fell 12 cents to close at $31.42 on the New York Stock exchange. Since reaching a record of $67.19 on Sept. 29 just before it spun off the Tim Hortons coffee and doughnuts chain, Wendy's stock has traded between $30.29 and $35.95."
here is both some good and not-so-good news for shareholders... but im telling you, don't panic, just hang in there, cause things will surely look up, im expecting a great year... just eat more Wendy's 8-)

Investor Relations
Wendy's recently released their 2006 annual report. of course, like most companies it is slick and glossy to impress the shareholders. this year however, there is a different attitude toward the report. a new CEO and head of the BoD has been appointed. this company is now looking toward a new future for the first time without Dave Thomas. the annual report opens with a letter from the new Chief Executive of the BoD, James Pickett. he seems to be telling both his story and background to ensure the shareholders faith in the company, as well as telling the story for a future Wendy's.
Some of the messages that stand out from this letter as well as the following letter from the new president talk about a positive future for the company. the BoD faced the challenge of life after Dave, the next generation (as they called it) and wanted to keep the new leadership from within the company. people that have been with the wendy's organization for a while, and worked closely with Dave. "during the second half of 2006, we created significant value for our shareholders, and the development of a new strategic plan. the new chairman left a very positive outlook, for an excitful future. he was very thorough and informative, as well as credible and believable.
the new President and CEO is Kerri Anderson. she was appointed to this position in November of '06. she has touched upon a few strategies for revitalizing a new Wendy's brand, as the total revenue for 2006 was $2.4 billion. Wendy's is going to re-establish their brand essence "Quality Made Fresh", as well as try to streamline and improve operations. this meaning getting better food to the customer faster. they are expecting to introduce more than 10 new products in '07 including sandwhiches, salads, and beverages. Wendy's is going to expand into the breakfast market and offer a breakfast menu (probably similar to McDonalds). this all sounds very exciting. Wendy's has also hired 2 new advertising agencies, Saatchi & Saatchi, and Kirshenbaum bond + partners. they are planning to target the 18-34 age demographic. 2007 should be a GREAT year for the Wendy's family.

sometimes i dont know if i really need to say any more, Wendy's seems to have every angle covered. every customer of Wendy's knows about the Dave Thomas Foundation. it is postered in every single restaurant as well as right in the front of their website. it is hard to avoid how much Wendy's does for the community, maybe sometimes they are a little over-ambitious with advertising the DTF, but it is the better of the two extremes. Dave Thomas was a magnificent founder and owner of Wendy's, he knew what direction to take the company for the best public appeal. using his background as an adopted child Dave knew how to organize his foundation, and it has grown today into something he would be proud of.

Advertising
Watching TV the other night i realized that the market is lacking Wendy's commercials. you always see thousands of other fast food chain commercials but very rarely does a wendy's commercial appear. with this in mind i went to the website... for all interested here is the link to the commercials page, so you can view all of there ads
http://wendys.com/ads/
I mean who didn't love the "Fpoon" and "Soquid" campaign. I know it made me drive to the nearest Wendy's and get a frosty for myself. Looking back at a few of these commercials, I remember all of these campaigns. The racoon mascots and the new dollar menu items more impressive than a unicorn. The only commercials still running are pushing the new $2.99 value meals, but Wendy's does not air commercials in prime-time TV slots.
With this in mind, i have just received a press release announcing a new position in the Wendy's corporation. "Announced that it has named Paul Kershisnik as Senior Vice President of Marketing Strategy and Innovation; Kershisnik has extensive U.S. and international experience in all aspects of marketing from strategic planning, product development and packaging, to advertising and promotions." This sounds like good news from a corporate standpoint. I am excited to see what new creative strategies Wendy's comes out with, as I am sure I will be entertained.

Nutrition
One of the promotions that Wendy's is currently pushing towards is customers if that on a more nutritious menu. When people think of wendy's the top competitors McDonalds and Burger King come to mind. all three companies are continuously going back at forth with menu alterations. A few years back both McDonalds and Burger King brought the "all/real" white meat chicken campaign to their menu. Or course, Wedny's chicken nuggets and chicken sandwhiches were already 100% white meat, so they were already ahead of the curve. Wendy's has always had salads on their menu; they have just recently added a couple new salds. the constant favorite is the Mandarin Chicken salad. The newest addition to the Wendy's menu is the Taco salad. this new salad is an alteration of a old favorite.
Another thing Wendy's does to inform its customers about its nutritional facts is have a "nutrition" page off of their homepage. This page opens to a new menu which allows the customers to research different things. different pages off of the nutrition page include a nutrition guide to everything on the Wendy's menu, as well as facts about food allergies and diabetes. two other things that are included are pages on Wendy's regional promotions and safe eating tips. so, you cannot just say that Wendy's is all about making money (even though they mostly are) they are still promoting healthy nutritious eating. so once again Wendy's has proven to be head and shoulders about its competition, how can you go anywhere else.
Peace, Love, and Spicy Chicken ;)
